Murder case postponed

A 23-year-old Brakpan man accused of murdering his niece appeared in the Brakpan Magistrates Court this morning (Monday).

The body of Jasmin Pretorius was found beneath a bed in her father’s home, at Suenet Flats along Voortrekker Street, over the weekend.

She had been reported missing on Saturday.

According to reports, chaos erupted at the courts this morning when angry community members pelted rubble at a police nyala, believed to be transporting the man, and tried to force their way inside the vehicle.

The case was postponed to Tuesday, January 7, next year, and the man remains in custody.

A post mortem will establish the cause of death and whether she was sexually assaulted.

Brakpan residents have since flocked to Suenet Flats to lay flowers and teddy bears, and light candles in memory of little Jasmin.
