Sterilise your pets

The Brakpan SPCA receives a large number of unwanted animals, the majority of which are litters of puppies and kittens.

The society has, therefore, urged all pet owners to make the responsible decision to have their animals sterilised.

The advantages of sterilising your pets are:

* prevents sexually transmitted diseases;

* animals can become disobedient, restless and noisy when in season;

* prevents uncastrated males in the neighbourhood from wandering;

* prevents fighting;

* animals are not always able to give birth naturally, which can lead to high veterinary bills or even death;

* prevents mammary tumours;

* animals are usually healthier;

According to the SPCA, one female cat and her offspring can produce 420 000 cats in seven years, and one female dog and her offspring can produce 67 000 dogs in six years.
