EMPD operation yields 28 arrests
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department speed operations, conducted in Brakpan between Wednesday, last week, and Monday, yielded a total of 28 arrests.

Fourteen drivers were arrested on Wednesday, last week, between 5am and 9am, along Springs Road and the R23 (Heidelberg Road).
“On Springs road, which is a 60km/h zone, one driver was arrested for doing 114km/h in an Audi sedan,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.
“Along the R23, between Rangeview Road and Ouhout Street, which is an 80km/h zone, 13 drivers ended up behind bars after being caught doing speeds of between 118km/h and 145km/h.”
On Thursday, last week, during an early morning speed enforcement operation on the R23, between Lukas Steyn Street and Geluksdal Road, which is a 100km/h zone, four drivers were arrested after registering speeds of between 132km/h and 142km/h.
Four more drivers were also arrested for speeding along the R23 on Friday, last week,
On Monday, six drivers were arrested along the R23 for doing speeds of between 117km/h and 138km/h.
“All the arrested drivers were released on bail of between R1 000 and R1 500, and their court appearances will take place soon,” said Kgasago.
“They face charges of reckless and negligent driving.”
