East Rand Gunners’ Association established in Brakpan

At a meeting of a group of enthusiastic serving and retired gunners, a long outstanding goal, namely the establishment of an East Rand branch of the Gunners' Association of South Africa, was finally realised.

The meeting, which was recently held at the Apex Military Base, in Dalview, was attended by Maj-Gen Roy Anderson, Chief of Defence Reserves of the South African National Defence Force.

Anderson was a guest speaker and also conducted the election of the first branch commitee.

The following members were elected:

* chairman: Gunner (retired Maj) Johan Herselman

* deputy chairman: Gunner (retired Maj) Louw Rossouw

* treasurer: Gunner (Maj) Arrie Kapsosideris

* secretary: Gunner (Sgt) Kevin Fenton

In his opening speech, Herselman invited all serving and retired gunners to join the association as life members and to strengthen the East Rand branch.

Membership is open to all gunners, whether Light Mountain, Pack, Field, Medium, Heavy, Coastal, Rocket, Missile, Locating, Anti-Tank, Anti-Aircraft or Naval.

It is the mission of the Gunners’ Association to promote fellowship and camaraderie amongst gunners, to promote gunner traditions and to provide welfare and educational support to gunners and their families.

For more information, contact Herselman on 083 632 0247 or Rossouw on 078 375 8909.
