Car guard shooting: victim dies

Barend Oosthuizen, the 69-year-old car guard, who was shot by robbers on Monday, died last night.

Barend and his daugher Kathleen Oosthuizen (44),  were shot and critically injured by two men, following a robbery outside a local bank.

They were shot while allegedly trying to stop the robbers as they fled the scene.

There was some confusion regarding Kathleen’s well-being on Wednesday, when a family member told the Herald that she had died on Monday night.

According to Kathleen’s sister Christine Oosthuizen (34), Kathleen was, in fact, recovering in the ICU ward at the OR Tambo Memorial Hospital.

This was verified by a police spokesperson.

Christine confirmed to the Herald this morning (Thursday) that her father had passed away last night.
