The operation, which commenced at 6pm on Friday evening and ended around 2am on Saturday morning, resulted in the arrest of 23 drivers on suspicion of drinking alcohol and being behind the wheel.
“The N17 freeway, between the Ergo turnoff and the Kwa-Thema bridge, as well as the R554, between the R23 and Prince George Avenue, were the main focus by Metro Police,” said EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.
“It was really unfortunate that two of the arrested drivers were women, locked up on the eve of Woman’s Day.”
One pedestrian was also arrested for drinking in public.
“Drinking and walking is dangerous,” added Kgasago.
