BREAKING NEWS: Bloodied, hijacked car recovered in Brakpan North

Brakpan police are currently combing Brakpan North in search of three hijackers.

This follows an incident that took place in Rynfield, Benoni, earlier today, where a shoot-out ensued between police, members of the public and the suspected criminals.

During the shoot-out, the three men are believed to have hijacked the driver of a silver Volkswagen Polo and fled the scene.

The Polo driver, however, opened fire on the hijackers, and injured one of them in the stomach.

The hijackers travelled to Brakpan North and abandoned the car along Hospital Road.

It was found by police at about 2pm.

Blood spots were seen on one of the vehicle’s rear doors, and the interior was covered in blood.

According to a local policeman, who may not be named as he is not allowed to speak to the media, the hijackers were picked up by a Toyota Quantum after abandoning the vehicle.

“We believe two of them were dropped off along Nel Street in Brakpan North, where they then broke into a house,” said the officer.

Police recovered a firearm, a cellphone and clothing at the address.

The officer told the Herald they believe the third hijacker was dropped off in the Brakpan CBD.

More information will follow as soon as it becomes available.
