EMPD excell in Inter-Metro police games
The Ekurhulen Metro Police Department bagged numerous medals and a trophy during the 10th edition of the National Inter-Metro Police Games 2014.
The games, which kicked off in Brakpan on September 21, culminated in an awards ceremony on Thursday, last week, in the Esselen Park Hall, in Kempton Park.
The EMPD hosted the Durban Metro Police Department (DMPD), Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) during the games.
Teams competed in nine sporting codes, namely soccer, netball, volleyball, cycling, running, golf, darts, pool and shooting.
Esselen Park was the venue for soccer, netball and pool, while the Kingsway Club, in Brakpan, was used for darts.
The John Barrable Hall in Benoni was the venue for indoor volleyball, and shooting took place at the Rooikraal Shooting Range, in Heidelberg.
The Ebotse, Kempton Park, State Mines and Royal Oak golf clubs hosted golfers, and cyclists raced in and around the Boksburg Stadium.
The games commenced in earnest at the various venues on Monday, September 22, and came to an end at around midday, on Thursday, September 24.
The EMPD Shooting Team excelled, taking gold medals in the individual best female category and best male category.
The team also earned a silver medal in the female team category and a gold medal in the male team category and carried off the coveted floating trophy for the best overall team in the shooting category.
In netball and darts, the EMPD teams earned silver medals.
The DMPD were the overall winners of the games, with the TMPD coming in second, and the EMPD third.
