Hijackers get cold feet

Members of the EMPD's Equestrian Unit recovered a hijacked truck in Brakpan, over the weekend.

The articulated truck, which was transporting a 24 ton roll of steel, was hijacked in Vereeniging during the early hours of Saturday morning.

It was found abandoned along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) a few hours later, at 8am.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the truck was en route to Durban and its load of steel is worth thousands of rands.

“When contact with the owner was made, he confirmed that his driver had been hijacked in Vereeniging and dropped off in Balfour, Mpumalanga,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The steel on the truck was untouched and it is suspected that the perpetrators got cold feet.”

The truck was taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound in Benoni for safe-keeping.
