Medals and certificates were awarded to military veterans during the SA Legion’s (Brakpan branch) annual champagne breakfast.
The event was held at the Apex Military Base, in Dalview, on Sunday.
Pro patria, Cunene clasp, Southern Africa, General Service, Unitas and 10 Years Loyal Service medals were handed out to recipients.
The Pro patria medal is awarded for service in defence of the Republic of South Africa, and the Cunene clasp is awarded to members of the former South Africa Defence Force for the participation in operation Savannah 1975/1976 (Angolan Civil War).
The Southern Africa medal is awarded for operational service conducted across the border, in defence of South Africa for the prevention and suppression of terrorism, and the General Service medal is for operational service within the borders of South Africa in the preservation of life, health, property or for the maintenance of law and order or the prevention of crime.
The Unitas medal is awarded in commemoration of the unification of defence and armed forces on April 27, 1994.
