Victim fires shots at hijackers
Three armed hijackers had to flee empty-handed on Saturday (April 18), after their victim managed to fire two shots at them.

This incident occurred at 10.15pm, in Pomegranate Avenue, Leachville.
A 35-year-old woman, who wants to remain anonymous, arrived at her home and waited for the electric gate to open.
“I saw a Golf (Volkswagen) driving down the road with its lights on, but I thought it’s just a car passing through,” said the victim.
“As I entered my driveway, I pressed on the remote control for the gate to close.
“That’s when I noticed a man pointing a firearm at me through the driver’s side window.”
The woman added that at that moment two other men appeared, pushed the gate back, and also entered her driveway.
One of them hit the driver’s side window with his hands and the victim then screamed and reached for her firearm in her cubby hole.
“I reached for the firearm in such a way that they wouldn’t notice, and fired two shots through the driver’s side window,” she said.
The hijackers then fled through the gate, which was still closing.
“I tried to follow them, but the gate was already closed and I had to wait,” the woman said.
“That’s when I saw they had parked the Golf in front of my house, and then they sped off.”
Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, commended the woman for her brave actions, but warned the public not to take the law into their own hands.
“People should be careful not to react in such a way, because it can turn out for the worse,” he said.
