Suspects in court after robbery and assault

Three men, aged 21, 22 and 24, appeared in the Brakpan Magistrates Court on Monday following an incident of robbery and assault.

The men were arrested on Saturday morning after they apparently robbed and assaulted a man.

The man was walking alone to work, at around 8am, near the KwaThema Hostel, when he was accosted by three men who stabbed and robbed him of his cellphone and cash.

The brave victim, despite his injuries, followed his attackers and saw them entering the hostel.

Witnesses alerted EMPD members who were patrolling the area along Ergo Road.

Fortunately, one of the inmates at the hostel had seen the three suspects running into the premises and led the officers to the room where the suspects were hiding.

On searching the room and the suspects, the officers found the cellphone and R290 which had been taken.

The 35-year-old victim was transported to Pholosong Hospital in Tsakane for medical attention.

The trio were arrested and charged at Brakpan Police Station with aggravated robbery and grievous bodily harm.
