Helicopter causes a scene

Those who had stopped to watch the take off had their cellphones at the ready to record the event.

The emergency airlifting of a patient by an ER24 medical helicopter, in Dalview, at about 9am on Tuesday morning, caused a stir among inquisitive onlookers.

Motorists pulled over on the side of the road and pedestrians stopped to get a better look at the helicopter that had landed in an open piece of land near Northdene Avenue.

The helicopter was dispatched to transport 79-year-old Brakpan Central resident Hannes Strydom to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

According to his son, Pieter Strydom (52), Hannes was admitted to the Life Dalview Clinic earlier this morning with an aneurysm.

“There is a risk that the aneurysm will burst, so he will undergo emergency surgery today,” he said.
