Wheels come off for tyre thieves

Stolen mag wheels and tyres recovered by the EMPD.

Two young men were arrested in Brakpan by the EMPD on Thursday morning for allegedly stealing three mag wheels and tyres worth R7000.

According to Lieut Col Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the owner of a Honda Civic parked his vehicle along Kitzinger Avenue on Wednesday night, near St Kilda Mansions, where he resides.

The car was parked along the street overnight.

“Three of his Honda mag wheels were pinched, with the fourth apparently proving difficult to remove,” said Kgasago.

The owner discovered the theft at 6am on Thursday morning.

“The victim immediately sought the assistance of the EMPD Brakpan Precinct officers,” said Kgasago.

“On receiving the complaint, Lieut Weitz of the EMPD Overloads Unit jumped into action and searched the flats.

“At 11am a suspect was found with the three stolen tyres and was arrested.

“The suspect sang and his accomplice was apprehended an hour later.”

The pair, aged 20, were charged at the Brakpan Police Station for possession of stolen property and are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.
