Heavy rains: Emergency services on high alert

Emergency services officials are monitoring and assessing areas prone to flooding on an hourly basis.

The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) is on high alert following heavy rains across the region.

DEMS teams have put together response plans, including placing swift water rescue crew on standby.

Ekuhuleni has experienced continuous rainfall in the past week, leading to flash floods in different areas.

DEMS officials are monitoring and assessing areas prone to flooding on an hourly basis.

In addition to this, the metro is involved with the provision of emergency shelters and relief aids to the communities affected by flooding.

Residents  are advised to be on high alert.

In the event of flash floods, contact the DEMS call centre on 011 458 0911 or the National emergency number 10177 or 107.

Speak clearly on the phone when reporting an emergency.

Provide the operators with all the necessary details required and do not end the conversation until all questions are answered.
