Last chance to register

There will be a second and final registration weekend for the 2016 municipal elections on April 9 and 10.

Voting stations will be open nationwide for registration from 8am to 5pm on both days.

Municipal elections are held every five years to elect councillors who will be responsible for governing a municipality for the next five years.

The current term of office of municipal councils ends on May 18 and the elections will be held between May 18 and August 16.

Voters only need to register once, unless they move within South Africa or their voting district boundaries change.

Registration details can be checked by sending an SMS including the ID number to 32810 (R1 per SMS) or download the IEC mobile app and enter your ID number.
