Robbers terrorise little girl who is home alone

A 10-year-old girl was shut in a cupboard during a robbery at her home.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A Sonneveld resident shot and injured a suspected intruder on his property.

The resident, who lives along Beaumont Street, was awakened by a noise at about 1.30am.

He got his firearm and went to investigate.

A window in another bedroom had been opened and the resident saw a man with a flashlight and a gun.

The resident fired a shot, hitting the man in the stomach.

A second intruder was seen fleeing the property and jumping the wall.

Police were called to the home and the injured man was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital under police guard.

His weapon was seized.

A 10-year-old girl was shut in a cupboard during a robbery at her home along Fuchsia Street, Leachville.

The girl was home alone when three men armed with firearms entered the house at about 10.30am.

They pushed the child into a cupboard and told her to stay there.

The robbers took two television sets and an amplifier.

The little girl sought help from a neighbour, who then notified her father.

Burglars stole a television set, jewellery, a cellphone and clothing from a home along Pythian Street, Brakpan North.

Two other homes were burgled.

Cellphones and electronic items were stolen from addresses along Gamkarivier Crescent, in Leachville, and Hayes Street, in Brakpan North.

A white Kia bakkie was stolen from Venter Street, Dalview.

• Saturday – Two cases of attempted murder were opened at the police station after a shooting incident along Wenden Avenue.

Two men, who are believed to have been involved in a dispute over a woman, allegedly fired shots at each other during a confrontation at about 11pm.

No injuries were reported and the men opened cases against each other.

• Sunday – Three burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Numbi Avenue, in Leachville, Schutte Street, in Dalview, and Derby Avenue.

A television set, DVD player, clothing, towels and cellphones were stolen.

Bogus police officers hijacked and robbed the 37-year-old driver of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie.

The incident took place at about 10.30am.

The man was travelling along the R23 towards Carnival City, when, as he approached the intersection of the R554, he was instructed to pull over by the occupants of a vehicle travelling behind him.

This unknown white vehicle was fitted with blue lights.

The driver stopped and a man alighted the white vehicle and approached him.

While talking to this man, two others suddenly opened his passenger door.

A gun was pointed at the driver and he was instructed to climb into the back seat.

His face was covered and he was told to lie down.

The driver was dropped off more than two hours later and was also robbed of his cellphone and bank cards.
