Child (4) dies after being hit by unroadworthy vehicle

The accident took place in Brenthurst.

A red Mazda sedan, allegedly found to be unroadworthy, struck and killed a four-year-old child in Brakpan on Saturday.

The 29-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.

The accident took place at the intersection of Prince George Avenue and Muir Street, in Brenthurst.

“Preliminary investigations of the scene pointed to the fact that the Mazda was speeding and with defective service brakes as only one wheel skid mark was visible,” said EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.

“The vehicle was impounded for further investigations.”
