Woman’s handbag stolen in distraction theft

The woman was sitting in her parked vehicle when a man knocked on the window and indicated there was something wrong with one of her back tyres.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Three burglaries took place.

Residences in Kontiki Street, in Minnebron, and Hospital Road and Bertram Street, in Brakpan North, were robbed of television sets, a home theatre system, laptop, computer hard drive and other goods.

A woman was robbed of her handbag at the corner of Prince George Avenue and Voortrekker Road.

The woman was sitting in her parked vehicle at about 1pm when a man knocked on the window and indicated there was something wrong with one of her back tyres.

She got out of her car to inspect the tyre and found there was nothing wrong with it.

The woman returned to her vehicle and discovered her handbag was gone.

A shop situated along Koos Vorster Avenue, in Minnebron, was robbed by two men.

The men, who posed as customers, pistol whipped two staff members before fleeing with cash from the tills and three cellphones.

The robbery took place at about 6.15pm.

Two cars were stolen.

A Honda Ballade (colour not provided) was stolen from the corner of Queen Avenue and High Street, and a white Mazda 323 was stolen from the corner of Park Street and Kitzinger Avenue.

• Saturday – Two burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Bertie Meyer Crescent and Davy Street, in Minnebron.

Television sets and jewellery were among the items stolen.

A white Fiat Uno was stolen from Craven Street, in Brakpan North.

A cellphone was stolen from a car parked at an address along Van der Walt Road, in Dalview.

• Sunday – A break-in was reported at an address along Victoria Avenue.

While nothing was stolen from the home, the kitchen door was forced open.

A blue Datsun 1200 was stolen from Lukas Steyn Street, in Withok Estates.

Two occupants in a black Volkswagen Golf assaulted and robbed a man of his cellphone and R300 cash.

The victim was walking along Prince George Avenue, in Brenthurst, at about 1am, when the car pulled up alongside him.

A case of common robbery was opened.

A coat and personal documents were stolen from a car parked along Elsburg Road, in Dalpark.

Three men robbed a fast food eatery along Voortrekker Road, at about 9pm.

The trio, two of whom were armed – one with a knife, the other with a gun – threatened a staff member and demanded money.

The robbers fled in the eatery owner’s vehicle, a white Opel Corsa.

Police are investigating a case of business robbery.
