You can claim for damages from that power surge
Can also be used for claims against any general liability as well as pothole damages.

Brakpan councillor for Ward 101 Stefanie Ueckermann has outlined the proper processes to be followed when claiming for damages from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
Ueckermann shared the information following a power surge in Dalview on September 18, when a mini substation situated along Paul Kruger Street was broken into and a neutral cable was stolen.
As a result, properties along this street, Cardigan Road and Hill Road suffered a power surge of between 360v and 440v.
Ueckermann said several residents contacted her and complained of damage caused by the surge.
According to Ueckermann, residents have two options when claiming for damages:
• If you have short term insurance you can obtain a technical report from the Electricity Department in Brakpan.
The department is situated in Block E, at the Brakpan Civic centre, Room E201.
You can contact the office on 011 999 7758 or send an email to Elize Dalton at elize.dalton@ekurhuleni.gov.za
• If you do not have short term insurance, if you don’t want to claim from your insurance or if there is a shortfall in the claim payout, you can go to the Electricity Department, where you will receive a public liability claim form that needs to be completed.
You will then need to submit the form, a signed affidavit stating what happened and three quotations on the cost of replacing your damaged goods.
After the submission of all the above mentioned documentation, the department will then send your documentation, including a technical report to the risk assessors.
The assessors will determine the merits of the case.
After the submission of all the documents, the residents can contact the metro’s insurance section on 011 999 6550.
Payments for successful claims will be made through the normal expenditure payment processing system.
The process may take up to 30 days depending on the authorisation that needs to be obtained.
The municipality’s insurance section is located on the ground floor of the Sanburn Building at 68 Woburn Avenue in Benoni.
The above information can also be used for claims against any general liability as well as pothole damages.
Residents can contact Ueckermann on 076 541 9717 for more information.
