Ten arrested in ‘Plastic City’ raid

Over 100 shacks were searched.

A crime prevention operation in ‘Plastic City’ this morning (Thursday) resulted in the arrest of 10 illegal immigrants.

According to Lieut-Col Julius Masiye, from the Brakpan SAPS, the operation started at 4am.

He told the Herald that over 100 shacks were searched.

“Ten illegal immigrants were arrested, but no illegal goods were found,” he said.

The operation involved the local SAPS, members of the EMPD and representatives from the Department of Home Affairs.

“The illegal immigrants will be deported,” added Masiye.

Important meeting

Brakpan residents are reminded to attend an important meeting this evening, where the infamous informal settlement will be on top of the agenda.

DA ward councillor Brandon Pretorius encouraged all residents to attend.

The meeting starts at 6.30pm at Tweedy Park.
