Local could be next Miss United Continents

Philisiwe Shinga (19) has been selected as one of the finalists in the Miss United Continents South Africa (MUCSA) pageant.

“The MUCSA is a pageant that allows women from all over South Africa to use the knowledge they have to create the change they feel is needed to make communities better,” said Philisiwe.

“As a woman who is part of this initiative, one becomes an ambassador of South Africa and other international communities by partaking in various charity functions and opportunities.”

Philisiwe is currently a second year student in Mathematical Statistics at the University of Pretoria, but has lived in Brakpan her whole life and currently resides in Sherwood Gardens. Philisiwe added, with a laugh, that she’s loyal to her neighbourhood.

“I literally shouted out ‘yes!’ when I heard I’m a finalist. I really was not expecting it, but they do always say that one should ‘expect the unexpected’, right?”

“This might be funny to some, but this year is my first time taking part in a pageant,” added Philisiwe.

“My wish is to represent South Africa and take part in the change which our generation and the next generation will witness.”

She added that with the help of the community, her dream to become the next MUCSA can become a reality.

Community members can help by sending an SMS to 47439 with the words ‘Win Philisiwe’.
