Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A man sustained injuries during a robbery at a business along Gloucester Avenue, in Rand Collieries.

The company was robbed of cash by two men, one of whom was armed with a gun.

The robbery took place at about 7.40am.

Staff found an injured co-worker on the premises after the robbers had fled.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

* A gearbox for a Volkswagen Golf was stolen from a residence along Tweedy Road, in Brenthurst.

* Tyres and mags were stolen from a car parked along Hendrik Potieter Street,in Dalview.

* A vehicle parked along Craigholm Street, in Dalview, was broken into and tampered with.

The owner parked the GWM bakkie (colour not provided) at around 6.40pm.

When he returned to the vehicle at about 10.50pm, he found the driver’s door open and the ignition damaged.

* A case of attempted murder was opened after a taxi driver was shot at following a minor accident between two taxis along 12th Road, in Withok Estates.

The incident took place at about 8.30pm.

* A Voortrekker Road resident was hijacked in the driveway of his home at around 8.30pm.

Two hijackers, one of whom was armed with a gun, confronted the victim as he parked his car, a silver Tata Indica.

The victim was ordered out of the vehicle and told to lie on the ground, where he was searched and robbed of cash and his bank card.

One of the hijackers then tried to start the Indica, but failed.

The victim was forced to start the car and the hijackers climbed in and drove off.

• Saturday – A blue Toyota Tazz was stolen from Devon Street, in Dalview.

The car was stolen between 8am and noon.

* Two TVs were stolen during a break-in at a home along Strange Avenue.

• Sunday – A woman was raped in a car near Kirschener Road, in Withok Estates, by a man she had met earlier that evening.

The pair met at an entertainment venue and the man asked the woman if she would accompany him to a fast food outlet to buy something to eat.

She agreed and they left together sometime after midnight.

The victim was driven to a secluded area, where she was then beaten and raped twice.

She managed to escape at around 5am and sought help at a nearby house.

Other:
• Thursday – Tyres were stolen from a truck parked along Floors Road, in Withok Estates.

Arrests:

• Possession of drugs: 3
• Possession of stolen motor vehicle: 1
• Drunk driving: 3
• Fraud: 1
• Business burglary and possession of housebreaking implements: 1
