According to Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for Brakpan police, the suspects were being pursued by personnel from a private security company after a house burglary in Sunward Park, Boksburg, earlier today.

“A shoot-out ensued between the suspects and the security officers,” she said.

“In their haste to get away, they crashed into another car and their vehicle careered down an embankment.”

An eyewitness to the crash, Johnathan Dugmore, told the Herald that the two injured suspects asked him to take them to hospital.

The vehicle the suspects were travelling in is believed to have either been hijacked or stolen.

Electronic appliances linked to the Sunward Park burglary were found in the car.
