Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (November 29 to 30):

Cases reported:

• Traffic offences: 10

• Intimidation: 1
• Hijacking: 3
• Attempted murder: 1

Arrests:

• Traffic offences: 10

Attempted murder:

• Shots were fired at a security guard on duty at a business along Tinus de Jongh Street, in Van Eck Park, this morning (Thursday).

The guard was patrolling near the gate at about 2am when he heard a gunshot and someone shouting that he wants to kill him.

He heard more shots and ran to the guardroom where he pressed the panic button.

Five cartridges were found on the scene.

Common robbery:

• Cables were stolen from a business along Vlakfontein Road, in Sallies Village, during the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two security guards on the premises were overpowered by four men at around 1.15am and blindfolded.

The men robbed them of their cellphones and a handheld radio before removing the cables.

• A woman was robbed of her handbag along Nossob Street, in Dalpark, on Friday.

The incident took place at about 6.50pm when a man grabbed the bag from the victim and ran off.

He was accompanied by another male.

The bag contained two bank cards, a medical aid card, a cellphone and some cash.

• Two men stole a purse from a woman at the corner of Currey Street and Derby Avenue on Tuesday.

The victim was walking home at about 5.30pm after withdrawing cash from an ATM in town when two men struck up a conversation with her.

One of them grabbed her purse and they both ran away.

Burglary:

• Merriman Street, in Brenthurst.

The break-in took place yesterday.

Stolen: A suspect was found on the property and arrested. Nothing was reported stolen.

• Des Fountain Street, in Minnebron.

The burglary took place on Tuesday.

Stolen: Groceries, appliances, clothes and other household items.

Theft from a motor vehicle:

• Tyres and rims were stolen from a car parked at Carnival City on Tuesday.
