The operation saw the arrest of seven drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence and four taverns were visited to ensure compliance with liquor licence conditions.
“Although a roadblock was held at the intersection of Black Road and Vuvuzela Street in Langaville, high-visibility patrols, roving roadside checks as well as stop-and-searches on both vehicles and pedestrians were the order of the day to prevent criminal activities,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.
“Seven drivers, aged between 25 and 35, were nabbed when found to be inebriated behind the wheel and detained at the Tsakane Police Station on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor.”
The taverns were visited throughout the night to ensure that the conditions of their permits were not disregarded.
