The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (January 29 to 30):

Cases reported:

• Business burglary: 1
• Common assault: 2
• Pointing of firearm: 1
• Murder: 1
• Attempted residential burglary: 1
• Traffic offences: 1
• Assault GBH: 1
• Using motor vehicle without owner’s consent: 1
• Theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Theft out of motor vehicle: 1
• Theft: 4
• Malicious damage to property: 1
• Reckless driving: 1

Arrests:

• Attempted housebreaking: 1

Murder:

• A case of murder was opened after the body of a 36-year-old man was found along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) on the border of Brakpan and Benoni on Sunday morning.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Burglary:

• Denne Road, Withok Estates (business).

The break-in took place on Friday.

Stolen: Computer screens, laptops and other office equipment.

Attempted burglary:

• An attempt was made to break into a house along Lester Road in Brenthurst yesterday (Monday).

Nothing was stolen from the home, but a security gate was damaged.

A suspect was arrested.

Theft of motor vehicle:

• On Sunday, a white Hyundai H100 bakkie was stolen from Lester Road in Brenthurst.
