Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A red Fiat Uno was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre.

* Two TVs, two gaming consoles, a laptop, clothes and shoes were stolen from a home along Hospital Road in Brakpan North.

* A radio and speakers were stolen from a car parked at Carnival City.

The vehicle’s ignition was also damaged.

• Saturday – Two burglaries took place.

A home in Olienhout Street in Dalpark was burgled of a TV and chainsaw, while a residence in the Mgongo informal settlement along Location Road was burgled of a TV and a generator.

* A white Hyundai H100 was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre.

* The occupants of a silver Toyota Quest robbed a man of cash and his car keys along Boekenhout Street in Dalpark.

The victim pulled up at an address along this street just after 11am and was waiting for the driveway gate to open when he noticed the Quest stop behind him.

Three men alighted the vehicle and confronted the victim at gunpoint.

They demanded the victim’s bag, which contained a large sum of cash.

One of the robbers then took the victim’s car keys from the ignition.

The trio returned to the Quest and drove off.

* A spare wheel was stolen from a bakkie parked at Carnival City.

• Sunday – Cash and car registration papers were stolen during a robbery at an address along Hospital Road in Brakpan North.

The incident took place at about about 5pm when the victim, who sells cars from home, was held at gunpoint by two men posing as prospective buyers.

The robbers also took the victim’s car keys.

* A vacant building in Voortrekker Road was broken into and stripped of electrical wires, basins, taps and other fixtures.

* A man struck by a train was taken to hospital under police guard after he was found in possession of a stolen firearm.

First responders found the weapon in the man’s hand and alerted local police, who arrived on the scene near Sallies Village at around 1.20am.

Police confirmed the gun was stolen during a burglary in Brakpan in 2016.

The 26-year-old suspect is in a critical condition at the Tembisa Hospital.

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – Batteries were stolen from two vehicles parked along Kirkpatrick Avenue in Brakpan North.

The following arrests were made in Brakpan over the weekend:

• Speeding: 3
• Shoplifting: 4
• Common assault and malicious damage to property: 1
• Possession of unlicensed firearm: 1
• Possession of drugs: 1
• Drunk driving: 1
• Business burglary: 2
