Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Two break-ins took place.

A home along Stoffberg Avenue was burgled of a gas stove and set of golf clubs, while a TV was stolen from an address along Kitzinger Avenue.

* A smash-and-grab was reported at the Voortrekker Road subway.

The incident took place at about 7.30pm while the driver was stationary at the traffic lights.

A man smashed the front passenger window and tried to grab the passenger’s cellphone.

The passenger put the phone under the seat and the thief ran away empty-handed.

* A red Volkswagen Golf 6 Gti was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

• Saturday – A pedestrian was assaulted and robbed of his wallet while walking along Prince George Avenue.

The victim was attacked by a lone thief, who was armed with a brick, at around 5am.

A suspect was later arrested.

• Sunday – A Queen Avenue home was burgled of a TV.

Other cases:

• Thursday – Cables were stolen from a business along Kitzinger Avenue.

* Tyres and mags were stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along Blyde Avenue in Leachville.

• Wednesday – Two men hijacked the driver of a white Toyota Quantum along Elsburg Road near Carnival City.

The victim was parked on the side of the road at about 12.30pm when two men armed with guns confronted him and climbed into the vehicle.

He was dropped off in Booysens, Johannesburg.

• Tuesday – A business in Prince George Avenue was broken into.

Copper cables, an air con, a wash basin and other fittings were stolen.

• Theft: 4
• Illegal immigrants: 1
• Dealing in drugs: 1
• Possession of drugs: 5
• Robbery with other weapon: 1
• Drunk driving: 3
• Violation of protection order: 1
• Rape: 2
