Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (June 26 to 27):

Cases reported:

• Use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent: 1
• Fraud: 2
• Theft: 3
• Common assault: 2
• Theft from motor vehicle: 1
• Culpable homicide: 1
• Business burglary: 2
• Public violence: 1
• Malicious damage to property: 1
• Common robbery: 2
• Rape: 1
• Hijacking: 1

Arrests:

• Assault on police officer: 1
• Housebreaking and theft: 1
• Contempt of court: 1

Hijacking:

• The driver of a silver Mercedes Benz was robbed of her vehicle by two men posing as police officers.

While driving along Civin Road in Sonneveld at 8.40pm last night (Tuesday), the woman noticed a car with flashing blue lights behind her.

She pulled over and was approached by a man who asked her why she had skipped the stop sign.

This “officer” was joined by another man who asked the woman for her driver’s licence and instructed her to get out of the car and open the boot.

The man then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim.

She was instructed to get back into her car and was forced to tell the hijackers the pin number for her bank card.

The victim was robbed of her cellphones, handbag and laptop, and dropped off at Carnival City.

Common robbery:

• A man was robbed in the CBD on Saturday night.

The victim was grabbed by a group of people after withdrawing cash at an ATM at around 10.30pm.

He was forced to the ground,  searched and robbed of his money, cellphone, bank card and one of his shoes.

• A woman walking along Escombe Avenue at 6.15pm on Friday was robbed of her laptop.

A man grabbed the laptop bag from her and ran off.

Burglary:

• Goods Road (business).

The break-in took place on Monday.

Stolen: Cash, liquor and cigarettes.

• Heidelberg Road, Dalpark (business).

The burglary took place yesterday.

Stolen: Computers.

Theft from motor vehicle:

• A spare wheel was stolen from a vehicle parked at Mall@Carnival on Saturday.
