Mmadikgang Mokoena is in the spotlight this week.
Mmadikgang Mokoena (47) is passionate about serving the community and fighting crime. The Brakpan Central resident, who serves on the local community policing forum, has four children, Tshepo, Thato, Sibusiso and Luthando.

• Tell us about your involvement in the Brakpan CPF?
I’m a community safety coordinator for Ward 97 (Brakpan CBD, Brakpan North, Brenthurst and Anzac).
• For how long have you been involved with the CPF?
Since 2004.
• What made you join the CPF?
I wanted to assist vulnerable women and children.
• Why is the CPF important in the fight against crime?
The community is the eyes and ears of the police.
• What do you think is the solution to South Africa’s crime problem?
We need to go back to Batho Pele principles (People First) and the spirit of Ubuntu.
• What is your occupation?
I work at the safety desk at the Brakpan Customer Care Centre (Ekurhuleni Metro).
• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?
Reading and cooking.
• If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?
To rid the world of drugs.
Drugs destroy lives.
• What motivates you?
Seeing people helped and happy.
• How would you describe yourself?
Talkative, kind, empathic and very strict.
• What do you see as the greatest strength of this community?
They are caring and united.
• What is your greatest concern for this community? What do you see as its greatest needs?
Our people need jobs, so we need skills development and employment opportunities.
