Siphesihle Shabalala is in the spotlight this week.

• What do you hope to achieve this year in your role as deputy president of the RCL?
Since my role at school is influenced towards the learners at my school, I want to encourage self-discipline and conduct.
I also want to encourage a positive attitude towards academics.
• What school subject do you enjoy the most? Why?
Mathematics. I say this because I have a passion and deep understanding for numbers.
• Which subject is your least favourite? Why?
Afrikaans. This is because I really don’t like words that much and it being a different language contributes to it being my least favourite.
• Do you play sport or participate in extra-mural activities. Do you have any hobbies? What do you like most about it/them?
Currently, I’m not doing any.
• What are your plans after matric?
My plans are to go to university and study medicine.
• Name one influential person you would like to meet and what do you want to learn from him/her?
Dr Oz (Mehmet Öz, known professionally as Dr Oz, is a Turkish American television personality, cardiothoracic surgeon, university professor, pseudoscience promoter and author).
I would ask him what it takes to be the best doctor, just like him.
• Describe yourself in three words.
Influential, unpredictable and self-motivated.
• Do you think social media has helped or hurt our society? Why?
It has helped our society.
The wonders technology has done for us are far greater than any negatives.
• What is the biggest challenge facing the youth today?
I believe it is the lack of opportunities.
There as not enough jobs, but the skills and qualifications are there.
• Where do you see yourself in five years?
I will be at university studying and doing my fourth year.
• What would be your super power?
The ability to change the physical and chemical structure of matter and to move matter at the same time.
