Two roads in Brakpan’s central business district are being refitted with new LED streetlights.

“In a fight for reliable and regular service delivery, we placed the ANC and its coalition partners under immense pressure to admit that they are not doing enough to keep the lights on,” said DA councillor for Ward 97 in Brakpan, Brandon Pretorius.

“Work has finally started and Voortrekker Road and Prince George Avenue are being refitted with new LED streetlights.

“The executive mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, has finally listened to our pleas, following his last visit to Brakpan.

“We informed mayor Masina that the state of our town is shocking, and this has resulted in the loss of many businesses in the town.

“Furthermore, leaving the town in darkness became a prime opportunity for criminals to take full advantage of the situation.”

According to Pretorius, Masina has since given instruction that an Urban Design Precinct Plan for Brakpan CBD be completed.

This process is currently in its initial stage.

Community engagement will soon be conducted in the form of a ‘Public Open Day’, where all interested parties can attend and be engaged on a one-on-one basis.

Dates for this are still to be communicated.

“I encourage Brakpan residents to attend the open day when it takes place, as it directly affects the future of our CBD,” added Pretorius.
