Twenty local designers find heritage fashion pop-up successful
Designers benefited from the platform’s high visibility to consumers.
Twenty of Ekurhuleni’s best local designers made a roaring trade, by exceeding their set targets with the number of sales they made during the heritage fashion pop-up market held at Springs Mall on Saturday.
The platform, provided by the City of Ekurhuleni, in partnership with MRMMK Fashions and Springs Mall, provided direct access to market, by giving the designers an opportunity to sell their products to the mall’s patrons, who were very receptive and bought, while others placed orders for products on display.
Mpumelelo Nkosi, a local designer from Katlehong, who specialises in designing accessories, such as wristwatches, neckpieces and handbags using African print material layered with genuine leather, participated in the exhibition.

“Business has been slow during the winter season. I am glad that the organisers of this market gave us the opportunity to showcase our products just in time for the summer season,” he said.
“Many people will need colourful clothing and accessories for this season and being here positions us well to make good sales and secure big orders.
“Since I arrived in the morning, I have already sold a few wristwatches as customers find them very unique. Others say they want them because they match outfits they already have.”
Designers benefited from the platform’s high visibility to consumers and the media that generated awareness for their brands.
