Fitness rules Walters household
Some of these competitors who are trained for functional fitness will be in action at Hoërskool Stoffberg when Blak Fitness hosts their Bash on October 19.
Fitness is something that Lewis and Belinda Walters are clearly passionate about. The owners of the Blak Fitness Circle, based at Hoërskool Stoffberg, have been around the world of keeping in shape for years.
Over the years they have competed in various competitions such as the renowned Arnold Classic where they have brought home gold medals. They have also trained competitors to achieve these medals.

“It’s extremely satisfying if you know you’ve coached that person from the beginning and you see the change physically and mentally. A lot of people say that they come here to just get away from the things happening at home. An hour where you are working in a class with friends,” says Belinda.

“There is a beginner division and an intermediate division. The intermediate division is for those people who have been exercising for a while and can pick up a bit more weight. But our focus is more on the beginner teams because we want people to see what’s going on in the community and to know that it doesn’t matter what fitness level you are if you can do a pushup and a sit-up and maybe run a little bit you can come and do this,” said Belinda.
Lewis stressed the importance of functional fitness.
“It’s not like you are training your body to just look good, but training for your body to be working physically. The body (looking good) is just something that comes with it. Obviously the hard work you put in helps you get these muscles but the balance, the agility, the skills, the power and off course being healthy and being able to endure fitness is what brings on that healthy body and healthy mind,” he said.
The couple also used to be involved in crossfit. They were judges at African Regional competitions around the continent.
“We are very proud that we were actually top judges there and I think that’s something that pushed us through and we always very proud to be cross fitters. We’ll never regret that we did that,” said Lewis.
