Social grant beneficiaries must be alert to avoid payment card fraud
Beneficiaries must note that it is their responsibility to safeguard the payment cards.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has urged social grant beneficiaries to be vigilant against any suspicious activity on their cards.
If anything untoward or irregular is noted, the beneficiary must immediately call or visit the nearest local SASSA office for assistance.
Upon visiting the office, beneficiaries must produce their ID, social grant gold payment card, proof of residence and an affidavit confirming their personal details.

The affidavit must also declare and confirm that any unlawful transaction or withdrawal was not committed by the beneficiary or rightful owner of the payment card.
If the beneficiary receives a social grant payment through a personal bank account, the beneficiary must bring along proof of banking details.
Social grant beneficiaries must note that it is their responsibility to safeguard the payment cards, pin codes and should avoid throwing away the slips, as these contain personal information which fraudsters can use to access money in the account.
Beneficiaries have the right to change the password at SASSA offices or at the South African Post Office if they suspect the pin code has been compromised.
