Holiday roadblock goes ahead

Officers donned face masks and gloves when interacting with motorists.

On what would have been the day that schools broke up, Brakpan police held a roadblock on the R23 (Heidelberg Road), near Koot Street, on Friday.

Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan police, explained the roadblock was previously planned as this period usually sees a spike in traffic with holiday makers taking to the roads.

In light of the Covid-19 outbreak and the measures implemented to curb the spread of the virus in South Africa, schools were, however, closed from Wednesday.

Van Staad told the Herald it was decided for the crime prevention operation to go ahead.
