A year of successes for Benoni Flying Squad
The squad will continue in its efforts in combatting crime in all areas it serves.

From April 1, 2019, to March 31, this year, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 1 166 suspects for different crimes committed across Gauteng, including Brakpan, and recovered 442 motor vehicles.
Members arrested 742 suspects for crimes ranging from domestic violence, assault, theft, shoplifting, counterfeit goods, possession of stolen goods, damage to property, robbery, murder, possession of endangered species, fraud, housebreaking, possession of explosives, driving under the influence of alcohol, crimen injuria, escaping from lawful custody, public violence, illegal mining, sexual harassment, trespassing, attempted cash in transit and rape.
Furthermore, 200 stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 78 arrests made in these incidents, 242 hijacked vehicles recovered with 47 arrests, 96 firearms recovered with 73 arrests and another 226 suspects arrested for drug related charges.

Members participated in 1 911 vehicle checkpoints as well as regular crime prevention operations throughout Gauteng, and searched and tested in excess of 40 000 vehicles, and 101 124 persons.
“All these successes came from dedication, commitment, hard work, investigation and community participation, making Benoni the most successful unit out of all seven of the Gauteng Flying Squads on arrests and seizures per operational member,” said WO Grant Giblin, communication officer for the Benoni Flying Squad.
“This emphasises the importance of the relationship with the community.”
Lt Col Tali Lukhele, the commander of the Benoni Flying Squad, thanked members and encouraged them to keep up the good work especially in this difficult period.
