Covid-19 screening and testing sites in Ekurhuleni

Patients will be screened on arrival and tested only if they meet the clinical criteria.

The City of Ekurhuleni has opened screening and testing sites across the region in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

According to the city’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, patients will be screened on arrival and tested only if they meet the clinical criteria based on the guidelines set out by the World Health Organisation and the South African National Institute of Communicable Diseases.

He added that to avoid mass testing that is unwarranted, patients must meet the Covid-19 case criteria which indicates that they:

• Have a severe acute respiratory illness, with fever or history of fever and cough with pneumonia or

• Have acute respiratory distress syndrome (based on the clinical signs or x-ray findings) that require you to be admitted to hospital

• Have documented travel history to any country where Covid-19 has occurred within 14 days before symptoms start.

Or

Have had close physical contact with patients with severe acute respiratory infections, specifically if you are a health professional dealing with patients who have severe acute respiratory infections and where the case of patients’ symptoms haven’t been confirmed.

People who have contracted the coronavirus may take up to one or 14 days to develop symptoms, which include:
