New accused appears alongside suspended EMPD deputy chief in Mbense murder case
Juan-Mare Eksteen, partner of the late Wiandre Pretorius, made her first appearance in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court, joining five others accused of the murder of Emmanuel Mbense.
Juan-Mare Eksteen made her first appearance in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday), joining five others accused in connection with the 2022 murder of Emmanuel Mbense.
The others are suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi, Cobus Janse van Rensburg, Bhekokwakhe Sibande, Adrian Mackenzie and Keisha-Leigh Stols.
Eksteen’s partner, Wiandre Pretorius, who was also implicated in Mbense’s murder during testimony before the Madlanga Commission, died by suicide in February.

Ahead of proceedings, the DA protested outside court, renewing calls for Mkhwanazi to be dismissed by the City of Ekurhuleni.
The other accused were arrested last week and first appeared in court on August 6, where the case was postponed for a formal bail application.
They are charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating or obstructing the ends or administration of justice.

The case was postponed to tomorrow (August 14) for further bail application.
They remain in custody.
