Scores arrested for breaking lockdown rules

"People must stay at home."

Fifty people were arrested in Brakpan yesterday (Thursday) for contravening regulations of the Disaster Management Act.

The arrests were made during an operation held by Brakpan police.

The offenders were nabbed for being out in public without a valid reason.

Those arrested are between the ages of 18 and 65 years old.

“The SAPS will continue making sure that inhabitants and property is protected, and that all homeless people are screened for identification,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, Brakpan SAPS spokesperson.

“People must stay at home.”

The offenders are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court today (Friday).
