Young writers encouraged to enter Word Warrior Competition
The 2019 competition yielded a high literary standard, making it difficult to pick the eventual winner.
Parents and teachers are encouraged to tell children about this year’s Word Warrior Competition.
They could walk away with a R1 000 cash prize and books to the value of R5 000 for their school and discover South Africa’s next great writer.
Every year, Read Educational Trust encourages budding young authors to challenge their creativity.
This year’s competition will continue to focus on the institute’s furry hero, the foxy Detective Inkomba. Entrants aged nine to 16 are required to write fresh, authentic dialogue for a play, a movie or to use in a story.
Celeste Hewett, on behalf of Read Educational Trust, said they encourage entrants’ imaginations to run wild, creating a scenario where Detective Inkomba solves a mystery of sorts.
“He could set off on interplanetary travel, engage in covert affairs or local affairs. The sky’s the limit.”
Entries close on October 31 and would-be entrants are invited to view samples by visiting www.read.org.za.
