Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend.

• Friday – After a fire was extinguished at a residence along Kiepersol Crescent in Dalpark Extension Six, it was discovered the home had been burgled.
Shoes, clothing, jewellery, a TV, a bed, a wardrobe and various other household items were stolen.

* Two cellphones were stolen during a break-in at a home in Middle Road, Sonneveld.

* A home in New Kleinfontein Road, Leachville, was burgled of pots, clothing, blankets and a kettle.

* Two men hijacked a white Isuzu delivery truck along Ergo Road in Maryvlei.

The driver and his colleague stopped at a business around 5pm to pick up parcels when they were approached by two men.

The men directed the pair to the dispatch area at the back of the property.

Once they arrived, the victims were threatened at gunpoint and forced into the back of the truck.

They were driven to a veld and forced to lie on the ground where one of the hijackers kept a watch over them until around midnight.

The victims were also robbed of their personal belongings including cellphones, cash and other valuables.

* A case of attempted murder is under investigation after a male motorist was shot at while driving along Heidelberg Road (R23), near Leachville.

The incident took place around 7.30pm.

The victim, who was travelling in a white Volkswagen Polo Vivo, was driving in the fast lane when he noticed a white double-cab bakkie speeding up behind him.

A shot was fired from the bakkie and the victim changed lanes.

The bakkie pulled up alongside him and more shots were fired.

While the victim was unharmed, the Polo sustained damage from gunfire.

The victim pulled over on the side of the road and the bakkie driver made a U-turn and sped off in the opposite direction.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.

• Saturday – A white Toyota Etios was stolen from an address along Pendoring Street in Dalpark.

* A woman was robbed of her bank card at an ATM in Rand Collieries.

The victim stopped at a petrol station along Springs Road to withdraw cash at around 9.15am.

As she was attempting to insert the card again, after it had initially become stuck in the machine, a man grabbed it from her and ran off.
R2 000 was withdrawn from her account shortly afterwards.

* A white Ford Fiesta parked along Abercorn Avenue was broken into.
Nothing was stolen but the driver’s side door and ignition system were tampered with.

* An attempt was made to steal a white Ford Ranger bakkie at Carnival City.
The driver’s side door was forced open and the ignition system tampered with.

• Sunday – A Porter Avenue resident was assaulted when he disturbed a robber in his home.

The victim was awoken at about 3am by the sound of his mother screaming.

Getting up to investigate, he saw two men – one inside the house and one outside at the window.

The robber inside was holding the victim’s laptop and a tussle between the pair ensued.

The victim was hit on the head with a shifting spanner, but managed to take the weapon from the robber.

He then hit the robber with the spanner, causing him and his accomplice to flee the scene.

The victim sustained a wound to his head and also injuries to his leg and arm.

While the laptop was damaged, nothing was stolen from the house.

A case of attempted robbery was opened.

* Two batteries were stolen from a truck parked at an address along Brakpan Road in Anzac.

* A woman was robbed of her blue Kia Picanto by two hijackers in Dalpark.

While driving along Rangeview Road at around 2pm, the victim was overtaken by a silver BMW which then suddenly braked in front of her.

The victim stopped her car to avoid an accident and two men alighted the BMW and approached her.

One of the men pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim.

She was told to get out of the car and the gunman opened the door.

He then climbed into her car and sped away, while the other man returned to the BMW and drove off.

* A fast-food eatery along 12th Road in Maryvlei was robbed by three men shortly after closing time.

The robbers, two of whom were armed with guns, entered the store at around 8pm and held staff at gunpoint.
They fled with cellphones belonging to the employees, cash, a TV and the eatery’s delivery vehicle – a white Kia Picanto.
