Illegal smokes and dagga seized

The trio, facing charges under the Immigration Act with possession and dealing in illicit cigarettes, was escorted to the Brakpan Police Station.

Five men were arrested in Brakpan on Monday during an anti-drugs operation conducted by EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members.

The operation, which took place between 10am and 2pm, also saw the confiscation of illicit cigarettes and dagga.

The illicit cigarettes were found during a visit to a supermarket along Voortrekker Road.

“Three undocumented merchandisers were handcuffed after officers uncovered a variety of illicit cigarettes valued at R30 790,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

Meanwhile, in Dalpark Extension Six dagga valued at R6 500 was uncovered during a stop-and-search of two men along Chestnut Street.

Charges of possession and possible dealing in an illicit substance were levelled against the pair at the Brakpan Police Station.
