A 35-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Brakpan on Sunday.
The man was nabbed during a crime prevention operation conducted by EMPD officers from the Brakpan, Benoni, Boksburg, Daveyton, Etwatwa and Kingsway precincts.
The operation was conducted between 4pm and 7pm along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) and the R554, near Carnival City.
The arrested driver, who was travelling in a Mitsubishi Lancer, was handcuffed after failing the sobriety test conducted on site where a breathalyzer/alcometer was employed.
The man was escorted to the Brakpan Police Station.
“During the intense operation, drivers without valid driver’s licences, professional driver’s permits, failing to wear safety belts, disobeying traffic lights/robots, failing to affix registration/number plates, holding cellphones while driving, failing to register and licence motor vehicles, and operating a motor vehicle with damaged tyres received hefty fines,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.
One motor vehicle was found to be unroadworthy.
All Covid-19 protocols were applied and observed during the operation.
