The process to install new lifts at nine of the City of Ekurhuleni’s rental properties, including Tweedy Park, started in September last year.
In total, 15 new lifts have been installed.
“We want to appreciate this moment where we are extremely proud to hand over the lift facility,” said Ekurhuleni MMC for Human Settlements Clr Lesiba Mpya.
“This facility will allow the residents to move swiftly within the building after a long wait.
“We want to thank the senior citizens for allowing us to provide them with a dignified human settlement.
“This is also in remembrance of those residents who passed on during lockdown, may their souls rest in peace.”
Mpya stated the lift purchase agreement includes a backup generator that will kick in when power is out or load-shedding is implemented.
“We want our residents, especially the elders, to be able to use the lifts anytime even during load-shedding,” he added.
Brakpan ward councillor for the area Brandon Pretorius was in attendance at the unveiling of the new lift.
