Weekend crime round-up
A security guard was shot and robbed of his firearm by two men along Oval Road in Brakpan North.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:
Friday – A red Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from an address along Victoria Avenue.
• A gas stove and a gas cylinder were stolen during a break-in at a home along Privet Avenue in Leachville.
Saturday – Two burglaries took place. Various household items, including TVs, a gaming console, groceries, tools and a bar fridge were stolen during a burglary at a home in Sports Way, Anzac, while electronic equipment was stolen from a residence in Porter Avenue.
• A woman was robbed of her purse and cellphone by a lone thief at the corner of Prince George and Gardiner avenues. The incident took place at about 12.30pm. The thief grabbed the items from the woman and made his getaway in a green Toyota Tazz.

• A petrol station along Rangeview Road in Dalpark was robbed by four men at around 1.50pm. As the gang was heading inside the shop on the premises, an employee stopped one of the men from entering the shop as he was not wearing a mask. The maskless man showed the employee a gun concealed under his shirt and told him to “voetsek”.
The robbers threatened staff member at gunpoint and made off with cash and cigarettes. Before the robbers fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle, the gunman fired one shot. A case of business robbery is under investigation.
Sunday – A home along Wenden Avenue was burgled of a TV and other valuables.
• A white Toyota Yaris was stolen from Kitzinger Avenue.
• A security guard was shot and robbed of his firearm by two men along Oval Road in Brakpan North while conducting patrols near the Eskom substation. At around 10.40pm, the victim’s colleague went inside the substation while the victim remained inside the patrol vehicle. He was then approached by two men who asked for directions. As the guard was talking to the pair, they attacked him and reached for his firearm. A shot was fired during the struggle and the victim was struck in the upper leg. His attackers fled with his 9mm pistol. The guard was rushed to the Far East Rand Hospital by his colleague and was later transferred to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. Cases of attempted murder and common robbery have been opened.
