Weekend crime round-up

A case of attempted murder is under investigation after a Larrendale resident was shot at by intruders on his Norfolk Street property.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A car dealership in Springs Road, Denneoord, was robbed at gunpoint.
A robber masquerading as a prospective buyer threatened staff at gunpoint at around 16:15.
Employees were tied up and the keys of four vehicles were stolen.
• Saturday – A residence in Modder Street, Sallies Village, was burgled of a gas stove, a gas bottle and other valuables.
* A car parked along Kitzinger Avenue was broken into.
The rear right window was smashed to gain entry into the car. The vehicle’s battery was stolen.
• Sunday – A case of attempted murder is under investigation after a Larrendale resident was shot at by intruders on his Norfolk Street property.

The victim was awakened by a noise at 02:45 and went to investigate. He saw two balaclava-clad men at the back door, one of whom was attempting to break down the door.

The resident screamed at the pair and one of them fired a shot at him. The bullet missed its target and the victim escaped injury. The would-be robbers fled the scene.

* Two occupants of a red Toyota Corolla made off with a cellphone and a laptop after robbing the owners of the devices at gunpoint along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville. The incident took place at around 12:45.

* A hairdryer was stolen during a break-in at a hair salon along Wenden Avenue. In addition to the theft, the business suffered damages including a broken security gate and glass door.
