Seven arrested for stealing motorcycle

Police are investigating if these men are linked to other cases involving theft of motorcycles.

Police arrested seven men last Thursday for the theft of a motorcycle in Brakpan the day before.

The arrests were made in Lurie Road, Putfontein, between 05:30 and 06:30 by the Ekurhuleni Tactical Task Team and EMPD Equestrian Unit.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele explained that police followed up on information about a Toyota Quantum, which was used to steal a motorcycle in Brakpan on September 1.

“The seven men were found inside the vehicle, which had no seats, still wearing the same clothing they had on during the Brakpan incident,” said Sekele.

“The driver of the vehicle told police the motorcycle was in Lindelani informal settlement, however, it was found in Putfontein.”

Police are investigating whether the men are linked to other cases involving the theft of motorcycles. A case of theft of a motorcycle was opened at the Brakpan Police Station.
