Uncertain about which candidates are contesting wards in Brakpan in the upcoming local government election?
Here are the candidates for
Ward 105:
Phyllis de Gouveia – ActionSA
Being born and bred in Brakpan, I was approached by ActionSA to represent Ward 105 as a councillor in the upcoming election.
The advantage is that my workplace as well as my residence is in Ward 97 for which my colleague, Simon Mabuse, is responsible as ward councillor.
I have a dual interest in this town. As we all know the whole of South Africa is now gatvol!
We as ActionSA do not offer overnight solutions to the sad state of our beautiful country, but we do have the energy, the foresight and the tenacity to work towards re-building a town, as well as a country that we can all be proud to call home.
Please read about the founder of ActionSA, Herman Mashaba, before you cast your vote on November 1.
Please vote for ActionSA. It takes people like you to make people like me. Hope that I can make a difference.
Nokhaya Mabuza – ANC
I reside in Dalpark Extension One, Brakpan. I am a qualified assessor, studying BEd foundation phase part-time.
I have been involved with the small orphanage in the ward and advising the youth in terms of studies and skills scarcity in the region.
As a councillor elect, I plan to have an open-door partnership with the community for it to feel comfortable.
When elected as the ward councillor, I pledge to do my best on the following:
• Accessible to the community, by having monthly community meetings to receive community challenges and report back on progress.
• Service delivery champion, by being at the forefront in ensuring that the community receive services properly.
• Education and skills development, by working closely with the community and other stakeholders to ensure all children are at school, have access to bursaries, internships and skills development programme.
• Access to better healthcare, ensure that the community have access to healthcare services, and access to ambulances.
• Sports recreation art and culture, by working with stakeholders in sports, art and culture in promoting participation from the community at large, particularly the youth and children, and also advocate for better facilities.
• Local economic development, to advocate for the participation of the community in spin-off opportunities on infrastructure development projects through jobs and business opportunities, engage the private and public sector on business development programmes and also push for corporate social responsibility programme.
Annette Verster – DA
My name is Annette Verster and I am the DA Ward 105 candidate in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).
I am standing as a ward councillor to fight for a better future for our children, families and communities and to fight for better service delivery for every resident in my ward because I believe in freedom, fairness, opportunity and diversity.
The DA is the only party that gets things done. The main issues affecting the ward include a lack of maintenance of sewage infrastructure causing sewage spills in Dalpark and Minnebron, and electricity outages due to a lack of substation repair.
My vision for the ward is a community where residents have access to quality and timeous service delivery.
I am a dedicated and focused councillor who is known by my residents as someone who gets things done.
Shawn Hefer – IRASA
My name is Shawn and I have lived in Brakpan for the past 43 years. I am standing as a candidate for the Independent Ratepayers Association of South Africa in the upcoming local government elections.
Our main focus is the furthering of better service delivery for all residents in Brakpan.
Alongside Ana Nunes, I have been administrating the Brakpan Service Delivery and Brakpanites Facebook pages for the past several years.
Our goal is to ensure our residents receive the greatly neglected service delivery that has been lacking in our town for some time now.
I will continue being a servant for the community, as I have been for the past several years, but will be able to further service delivery issues much better when I can act in an official capacity.
Communication to our fellow residents should be done as soon as possible so the community is aware of the progress of the issues we are busy dealing with.
The same goes for any scheduled maintenance, events or interruptions that may affect residents so they can plan to minimise disruption.
As an independent candidate, no time will be wasted on political issues. We can fully focus on improving service delivery, thus taking our town back in the hands of the ratepayers. Ana and I are well known in Brakpan and our track record in the community speaks for itself.
No excuses, just improved service delivery. We serve the Brakpan residents!
